Boy 8, Leg Severed Over Rat Chase

An eight-year-old boy, Richmond Adokwei, who resides in Walababa in the Assin South District in the Central region, has had his leg severed over a rat chase. The horrific incident, which occurred yesterday around 3:20 P.M., saw Richmonds leg severed and almost falling off from the cuts inflicted on him by his elder brother, Lantey. Narrating the story to the media, Lantey said he and his friends including his junior brother, Richmond, who were on vacation decided to go to the bush and hunt for rats known in local parlance as Okusi. He continued that when they entered the bush they saw a rat hole and went close to it. And after reaching where the rat hole was, we lit a match at the mouth of it to force the rat to come out, he narrated. Lantey went on to add that after a while when they realised no rat was coming out of the hole they poured water into it. And after sometime, he added, the rat came out and started running while they gave it a hot chase. According to him, it was at that point that the rat ran in between the legs of his junior brother [Richmond]. and whilst I was attempting to kill the rat my cutlass mistakenly severed my junior brothers leg, Lantey sorrowfully narrated. He said his brother was quickly rushed to the Assin Foso Hospital, adding that owing to the severity of the injury, he was referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi in the Ashanti region where he was admitted. Lantey noted that his injured brother currently was responding to treatment.
