Radio Mechanic Arrested For Stealing Goats

Michael Teye Kubi, a 32-year-old radio mechanic is facing the law for stealing four goats. He was, however, granted bail in the sum of GH2,000 with a surety after his remand at the Akuse Prisons. His plea was not taken. The Presiding Judge of the Odumase Krobo Circuit Court, Asmah Akwasi Asiedu, ordered the police to supervise the sale of the meat and hand over the proceeds to the owner. The Prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Richmond Akwasi Yeboah, told the court that the complainant is a 52-year-old driving school instructor at Salosi, a suburb of Somanya, while Kubi, also a driver, lives at Free Town, also a suburb of Somanya. He said on November 9, 2014 at about 1:30 a.m., the complainant detected that thieves had stolen his four goats, so he went to see a friend who was a taxi driver to assist him to look for the animals. ASP Yeboah said the complainant and his friend were standing in the porch when they heard a gunshot. He said suddenly, they saw three men standing by the roadside and a taxi approaching. The taxi stopped in front of the men and Kubi, who was driving the taxi, spoke with the men. ASP Yeboah said few minutes later, Kubi sped to the complainants direction, so the complainant stopped Kubi but he failed to stop. He said the complainant and his friend chased the taxi and when they got to Adjikpo-Low Cost Junction, they saw the taxi in a gutter and the driver throwing away some dead goats. He said the complainant identified two of the goats as his and with the help of some neighbours, Kubi was arrested and they called the police. When the police got to the scene, they saw a cartridge, scissors, knife, temporary driving licence and a torch in the taxi. The prosecutor said Kubi was arrested and sent to the police station. ASP Yeboah said during police investigation, Kubi told the police that a friend invited him to Low Cost and when he got there, he met the friend with two others. The prosecutor said Kubi said he saw one of them holding a gun and he was asked to put the goats into his taxi which he refused. However, on his way home, he had an accident and the complainant and some neighbours came, accusing him of being a thief.
