DCOP Boakye Condemns Men For Storming FM Station

The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Kofi Boakye, has condemned a team of policemen who stormed the premises of Fox FM, a radio station, to arrest a man, said to have accused the Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, of indulging in galamsey activities in some parts of the Ashanti Region, on Friday. According to him, it was a civil matter which did not require the intervention of the police. DCOP Boakye said if it was an allegation made, then the law must take its course, adding that the police could only intervene in the event of any threat. About 12 policemen and a group of machomen were said to have stormed the premises of the radio station to arrest the man, Andrews Akwasi Agyapong, who on the Eboboba programme of the station, allegedly accused Mr Joseph Yammin of indulging in galamsey activities. According to DCOP Boakye, it was wrong for the policemen to do that and promised to query the officer who gave the instructions. Speaking on the same radio station on Saturday, DCOP Boakye said he was out of the Kumasi metropolis that day, and did not know of the incident until the Ashanti Regional Minister, Samuel Sarpong, prompted him on the issue. The officer who instructed the operation would be queried, he said. Efforts by our reporter to contact Mr. Yammin for his comments, proved futile as his mobile phone did not go through.
