CHRAJ Boss Suspension "Timely"- Emile Short

Former CHRAJ boss Justice Emile Short has indicated that he is not surprised of government's decision to suspend the head of the Commissioner for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Ms Lauretta Lamptey. He has further described the suspension as timely and has urged the Deputy Commissioner of CHRAJ, Mr. Richard Quayson who will be acting as the head following the suspension to rebuild public confidence in the Commission. Speaking in an interview on various media platforms in Accra, Justice Emile Short said the decision to suspend Ms Lamptey, will not affect the operations of the Commission. A statement signed by the Chief of Staff Prosper Bani on Tuesday said The suspension follows the establishment of a prima facie case against Ms. Lamptey by the Chief Justice, and the setting up of a five (5)-member committee to investigate complaints made against her. Ms Lamptey courted controversy when she allegedly spent close to $5,000 monthly rent on her plush AU Village apartment for 33 months while over GHS180,000 was being spent to renovate her official bungalow which was previously occupied by Justice Emile Short. Immediately news of this finding broke, several people started campaigning for government to give her the sack (Lauretta). Speaking in an interview on Citi FM, Justice Short said: I think that the announcement is timely given that the recommendation for her suspension was given by the five member judicial committee which looked into the matter.
