AFCON 2015: Ghana 1 - 2 Senegal; Woeful Stars' Oveshadowed By Teranga Lions

The Black Stars of Ghana have been beaten by the Teranga Lions of Senegal in their open Group C match in the ongoing African Cup of Nations in Mongomo, Equatorial Guinea. A late Senegal goal by Moussa Sow in the 93rd minute denied the Black Stars victory. Substitute Moussa Sow drilled in a low shot with almost the last kick of the game in added time after Mame Biram Diouf had cancelled out Andrew Ayews first-half penalty for Ghana. It was a deserved triumph for the Teranga Lions, who overcame a sluggish start to dominate the second half and wasted several chances before securing maximum points. Captain Andre Ayew put Ghana in front after converting a first half penalty following a foul on Christian Atsu by Senegal goalkeeper and captain Bruno Coundoul in 13th minute. Ghana ended the opening half in the lead. However, Senegal returned from the break much stronger and succeeded in getting the equalizer through Mame Diouf in the 58th minute. Both teams missed key strikers with mild malaria ruling out Ghana skipper Asamoah Gyan and a calf injury sidelining Senegalese Sadio Mane. Experienced midfielder Andre Ayew took over the Black Stars captaincy and younger brother Jordan Ayew also made the starting line-up. Senegal left Newcastle United goal-poacher Papiss Demba Cisse on the bench, preferring Diouf of Stoke City as the lone frontman. Avram Grant's side will play Algeria on Friday before taking South Africa in their final group stage match.
