When it comes to getting the best results, each football team manager has his own rules and regulations. And, often, these cover physical activities, both on and off the pitch.
Indeed, many have strong views on whether, or not, their players should be allowed to have sex during the tournament. Some simply shrug their shoulders and let them get on with it, believing it to be relaxing. While others impose a state of suspended celibacy, claiming their players� energies are best preserved and that the resulting increased �aggression� will improve performance.
But, of course, nothing is black and white. There are those teams under gentle orders � with sex only banned before match days. Some managers have demanded that Wives And Girlfriends (WAGS) be left at home. To leave you in no doubt as to which teams are the most sexually frustrated (no wonder they�re too distracted to remember the words to their national anthems), here are the reasons behind those �yes, yes, yes!� (and no) verdicts by team managers for the Brazil 2014 world cup.
Nigeria: Yes, but not for the whole team. The Nigerian manager has only allowed wives, not girlfriends, to travel with them. Former manager Christian Chukwu agrees with the decision and advised, ��In my days as a player, I made it a point of duty to stay away from women, because sex has a lot of spiritual things attached to it.�
Bosnia � Herzegovina: �There will be no sex in Brazil,� insisted manager Safet Susic. �They can find another solution. They can even masturbate if they want.�
Mexico: �If a player can�t go one month or 20 days without having sexual relations, then they are not prepared to be a professional,� decreed manager Miguel Herrera. Probably wise words for a team that suffered two prostitution scandals in the last four years.
Cameroon: No. What�s more the players will be under surveillance. A hotel employee revealed: �Everything will be monitored by cameras. The order came from the team manager himself. The players will not be able to get women into the rooms.�
Costa Rica: Only after the team qualifies for the second round. Manager Jorge Luis Pinto said, �I can assure, with no doubts, they will be able to �enjoy themselves� just as soon as they qualify for the next round.� England: It�s a yes from manager Roy Hodgson � England are free to romance their WAGS as they wish. It�s all in stark contrast to the 2010 World Cup, when then-manager Fabio Capello only allowed them to meet their WAGS for a single day or �do it� just once during the tournament.
Netherlands: Dutch manager Louis van Gaal said he believes in nurturing �the whole person� and allowed his players time with their WAGS before they beat Spain 5-1. Germany: The German team is allowed to have as much sex as it wants � just as long as it�s not the night before a match.
Australia: It�s a yes for the team, but manager Ange Postecoglou thinks there are most pressing things to worry about. �With everything we need to do in camp, I don�t think those things are of primary importance.� Brazil: Yes, as long as it�s not too �acrobatic�. Manager Luiz Felipe Scolari has said �normal sex� is fine. �Usually normal sex is done in a balanced way, but some like to perform acrobatics. We will put limits and survey the players.�
USA: A yes. �I think we are very casual in the way we approach things,� said Coach Jurgen Klinsmann. Russia: The Russian team�s WAGS have been banned from Brazil. So we have to assume it�s a no to sex for the majority of the team.
Switzerland: The Swiss team has had a �sex allowed� policy since the 1994 World Cup.
Spain: Spain can have sex anytime except the night before a match. Italy: In a reversal of its previous policy, the Italian team had its sex ban lifted. Ghana: No, the Ghanaian team is under strict orders.
South Korea: No, with no explanation given. Just don�t do it.
