Pressure Mounts On Akufo Addo To Condemn Bugri Naabus Tape

Pressure is mounting on “doubtful” 2016 flag bearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to condemn in no uncertain terms explosive and divisive comments in a leaked tape traced to one of his trusted and loyal allies who also doubles as the party’s Northern regional chairman.

Tamale based youth group, Concerned Youth of NPP, has set in motion moves to get Nana Akufo-Addo to speak on the damnable tape which is in wide circulation and is causing consternation within the biggest opposition party.

Addressing a news conference in Tamale, spokesperson for the group, Elliasu Haruna, chided the twice defeated presidential candidate for his deafening silence on Daniel Bugri Naabu’s unsavory and dangerous comments, a call that is been backed by founding member of the NPP, Dr Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe

“We are by this statement calling on our party’s flag bearer and next President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to disassociate himself from the comments of Bugri Naabu as it doesn’t depict the image Nana Addo stood for in his over four decades in active politics,” he stated.

The NPP Northern regional chairman, who is believed to be one of Nana Akufo-Addo’s bankrollers was captured on tape revealing how the former Foreign Affairs Minister in the Kufuor administration has arrogated to him (Bugri Naabu), first vice chairman, Freddy Blay and other ‘loyalists’ the power to take decisions on behalf of the party on the blind side of the party’s National Chairman and General Secretary.

Reiterating Nana Akufo-Addo’s long-standing position that Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyapong are devotees of his fiercest rivals, ex-president Kufuor and Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten, Bugri Naabu, the man who issued a ‘fatwa’ demanding an investigation of delegates in the Northern region who voted against Nana Addo at the party’s congress, said Afoko and KwabenaAgyapong are agents of the ruling NDC government working to scuttle Nana Addo’s chances in next year’s polls.

While revealing that Nana Akufo-Addo does not trust Afoko and Kwabena Agyapong, Bugri Naabu noted that the duo were funded by the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) through National Security to win their respective positions at the party’s Tamale congress in order to put a spanner in Nana Akufo-Addo’s dream of becoming president in 2017.

He accused Kwabena Agyapong of receiving GHC200,000 bribe from the NDC, which he alleged was channeled through National security.
He also alleged that National Security is providing security and telephone services to the two beleaguered NPP national executives.

The Nana Akufo-Addo devotee singled out his fellow Northern politician, Paul Afoko, and described him as “useless person” who knows nothing about politics, adding that KwabenaAgyapong of plotting Nana Addo’s defeat to fortify his (Agyapong’s) chances of contesting the NPP flag bearer race for the 2020 elections.

These comments, the group noted, if not condemned by Nana Akufo-Addo and leadership of the party will create impression that he and the party leaders are in tacit agreement with Bugri Naabu.
