I Didnt Know I Held Ghana's AFCON Goal Record...

Former Black Stars player Rev Osei Kofi has revealed that he didn’t know he held the record for the most goals scored by a Ghanaian at the African Cup of Nations until current captain Asamoah Gyan equaled it with his epic goal against Algeria last Friday.

Asamoah Gyan’s goal for Ghana against Algeria at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations means the Al Ain striker now has seven tournament goals, same as Ghana football legend Osei Kofi.

But speaking on Asempa FM on Tuesday, January 27, Rev.Osei Kofi said he was not aware he had held any record. “To be honest I didn’t know I had made any record. I got to know after he (Asamoah Gyan) equaled it with his goal against Algeria.

"I was able to achieve that as a play maker and not as a striker and was unaware that such an important achievement will be recorded.” “If he has equaled my record then I am happy for him but l played only three Nations cups but with Gyan’s age l wish he scores more goals and sets a new record” he added.

"I want to congratulate him though for equaling my record and I will award him on his arrival to the country".
The former triple Olympian made three Nations Cup appearances in the Ghana colors from 1963, 1965 and 1968. He was a joint top scorer in the 1965 Africa Cup of Nations tournament held in Tunis, Tunisia leading to Ghana winning the tournament for a second time.

He was the third highest scorer in the 1968 Africa Cup of Nations. In his hey days, Osei Kofi was called the 'wizard dribbler' because of his dribbling skills.
