It Will Be Politically Unwise For NDC To Change Amissah-Arthur As VEEP - NDC MP

Member of Parliament for Techiman South Constituency, Hon. Adjei Mensah has described the intention of some members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to change the Vice President, Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur ahead of the 2016 elections as a serious joke.

According to him, it is politically unwise for the NDC to harbor the thought of changing Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur as it requires serious consultation and calculation to choose a Running Mate for President Mahama.

Speaking in reaction to the report that there is a plan to select a new Running Mate among the Communication Minister, Dr. Omane Boamah; NHIS Boss, Sylvester Mensa and former Minister of Sports, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, the NDC MP said any such attempt should be directed at the year 2020.

“..And so this kind of jokes which some NDC members are behind should stop; this is A serious joke. If anybody wants to push such an agenda, they should push for 2020 and not the 2016 elections. If you make that kind of mistake, what explanation can you give to Ghanaians? What will you say to convince Ghanaians for the change? As MP, how will I convince my constituents for changing the Vice President for another Running Mate in 2016 elections?” he quizzed.

Inasmuch as political parties have plans for preparing successors, Hon. Adjei Mensah insisted that there is no truth in this speculation as those names are possibly being considered after the administration of President Mahama and his Vice Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur.

“President Mahama after his tenure, there should be a replacement and if such names are being prepared after President Mahama and his Vice, then it is okay but to think of changing the Vice President in 2016, it is politically unwise to take that decision,” he chided.
