Tullow Oil, Ghana Golf Association Welcome New Director Of Golf For Ghana

The Ghana Golf Development Board welcomes a new Director to oversee golf operations in the country as efforts to popularize the game are intensified. The appointment of PGA Golf Professional, Steven Wilson as National Director of Golf for Ghana was done by Royal and Ancient and supported by Tullow Oil Ghana.

 Steven Qualified as a Professional in 2008 under the guidance of former Welsh PGA champion Chris Evans at Tandridge Golf Club in England.

Having always had ambitions to coach and work overseas, Steven moved to Katameya Heights Golf Club in Cairo to become a full time teaching Professional. In 2011 Steven Was promoted to Head Professional, and for 2 years was responsible for the daily golf operations, golfing events and overseeing the Academy.

After the Egyptian revolution and five years of working in Egypt, Steven returned back to his home town in Wales to continue his coaching education, while attached to the Tudor Golf Academy.

 

“After speaking with the members of the GGDB and listening to their plans of growing the game of golf in Ghana I was very keen to be a part of it. I am very passionate about introducing new people to golf, especially the children as they are the future of the game”.

“By building close relationships with schools up and down the country and offering a structured National Junior Golf Program, I am sure we can create a large pool of future golfers. I am also very keen to get more girls taking up the game and hope to change any perception of golf being a game for old men.”

 

Steven will be travelling to all of the golf clubs in Ghana throughout the year and will offer assistance in attracting new golfers and to help local professionals to introduce new structured programs to their academies. “I have been very fortunate to learn from some of the industry’s top golf instructors, and am very excited to be able to pass what I have learned onto my fellow Professionals throughout the country”.

Steven has hit the ground running by immediately  helping to draft the Regulations and the Format of play for the new Corporate Golf League organized by the Ghana Golf Association and brand activations company, Events  Capital
