Malors Exit Best Decision Andy Kankam

Andy Kankam, editor of pro-NDC newspaper, The Informer, has described the exit of the president’s Director of Communication, Ben Dotsei Malor as a best decision.

The Presidency on Wednesday confirmed the departure of Ben Dotsei Malor and Secretary to the President, Dr Raymond Atuguba from the Flagstaff House after the expiration of their respective contracts.

There have been rumors of a power play at the Presidency, involving the two and some other presidential staffers.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show, Andy Kankam said the two could not have made a better decision adding that “somebody who has this rich experience is brought into the Flagstaff house, is prepared to save his nation, [and] is not given the free hand to help. To me it will be unfortunate if he renews his contract to stay on.”

He observed that there have been rumours that Mr Malor sometimes struggle to see the president to get a briefing “because somebody feels that yes I have been there, I was part of the struggle, fine, but governance is a serious business and you don’t joke with governance.”

He cited some former presidential staffers who prevailed on the job as “Kwabena Adjei Agyepong who was the press secretary to former president Kufuor, down to Andrew Awuni, Koko Anyidoho” saying “at least when they speak every morning you will know that this people are speaking on authority. They have firsthand information from the president.”

Andy Kankam however said the exit of the two will not end the power play at the presidency adding that “whether Atuguba leaves, Dotsei Malor out that will not solve the problem, there is more to it.”

He urged the president “…to tell everybody and those working with him that yes, as a president I will decide who to bring in at a point in time.”
