Two people have been placed in police custody for allegedly de-frauding an Accra businessman.
Paul Asamoah, 51 and Samuel Lamptey, 35, both taxi drivers, were arrested when they attempted to present fake oil drilling pipes to Mr. George Arhin, the businessman.
Briefing The Ghanaian Times, the Airport Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Yao Tettega, said on February 9, Arhin received a call from the suspects.
Asamoah introduced him to OD grade petro-chemical and drilling pipes needed by some firms at the Jubilee Field.
According to him, Arhin went through a similar incident last year, and paid GH¢32,200 to some men who also claimed they could assist him to sell drilling pipes but failed to do so.
Chief Supt. Tettega said Arhin later received a call from a man with a foreign accent that, he needed drilling pipes to buy.
“Arhin feigned interest in the deal, but informed the police of it,” disclosed the Chief Superintendent.
He arranged to meet the suspects at Hong Kong, a suburb of Accra, the police laid ambush and arrested the suspects in the process of presenting the drilling pipes to him.
It came to light that the items were not drilling pipes but ball racers.
Chief Supt. Yao Tettega said during interrogation, the suspects admitted the offence, and they would be put before court soon.
