District Assembly Polls.... . . And Mounting Of Platforms Begin In Brong Ahafo

Mounting of platforms for 2,269 aspiring assembly members in the Brong Ahafo Region will start from February 18 to 28, 2015  in all the 766 electoral areas in the region.

 
Seven hundred and sixty-six deputy returning officers for special duties from the Electoral Commission will also be in charge of the mounting of the platforms in the region.
 
The Brong Ahafo Regional Director of the EC, Mr George Gyabaah, told the Daily Graphic in an interview that every district would start the mounting of the platforms from February 18 and that by February 28, 2015 they should finish.
 
He disclosed  that the nomination forms of 10 people were cancelled for either not following the proper procedure or for the late submission of the forms.
 
The assembly election is scheduled for March 3, 2015.
 
Women contesting
 
The regional director  said the number of women contesting the district level election in the region was below expectation.
 
‘Few women filed their nominations to seek election to the various municipal and district assemblies in the region as compared to their men contestants, he stated.
 
Out of 2,269 aspirants for the municipal and district assemblies, only 113 females filed their nominations as compared with 2,156 males who filed to contest the district level elections in the region.
 
Twenty-two out of the total aspirants were retained unopposed, meaning that nobody filed nomination to contest them at the close of nominations.
 
Also a total of 5,223 candidates, including 4,755 male and 468 female contestants had submitted their forms for the unit committee elections in the region at the close of nominations on December 23, 2014.
 
Distribution of materials
 
Touching on the distribution of election materials, the regional director said voters registers had been distributed to all the EC offices in the region.
 
Also, he said, the regional office of the EC had received biometric verification devices (BVD) and was going to dispatch them to the districts, and added that most of the election forms had been sent to the districts.
 
Mr Gyabaah urged the electorate in the Brong Ahafo Region to take active part in the forthcoming exercise.
 
Municipal/district assemblies
 
There are 27 municipal and district assemblies in the Brong Ahafo Region.
 
They are Asunafo North Municipal and Asunafo South Assemblies, the Asutifi North and Asutifi South District Assemblies, Atebubu-Amantin, Banda, Berekum Municipal, Dormaa East, Dormaa Central Municipal and Dormaa West District assemblies.
 
Others are Jaman North and Jaman South, Kintampo North Municipal and Kintampo South, Nkoranza North, Nkoranza South, Pru, Sene East and Sene West District assemblies.
 
The rest are Sunyani Municipal and Sunyani West, Tain, Tano North and Tano South, Techiman Municipal, Techiman North and Wenchi Municipal assemblies.
