Woman Jailed Five Years For Trafficking Grandson

The Agona Swedru circuit court has sentenced a 57- year-old fish monger from Senya Bereku to five years imprisonment for human trafficking.

Adjoa Hannah Anderson, the grandmother of the victim, pleaded guilty.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Mr. Ofori Asante told the court presided over by Justice Mrs. Hannah Abigail Animah Asare that the complainant was a staff of Challenging Heights, a non-governmental organization (NGO) that advocates for elimination of trafficking of children, whiles the victim was a 10-yearoold boy who was once rescued by the NGO from Yeji.

He said in January an official from the office of the NGO in Winneba, on their normal monitoring of areas where children who were trafficked and rescued by the NGO to see their condition and the way forward, visited the school where the victim was supposed to be schooling.

The prosecution said information received by the staff of the NGO at the school indicated that the boy had been re-trafficked to Yeji and they lodged a formal complaint with the DVVSU in Winneba.

He said the accused was arrested and her cautioned statement admitted the offence and mentioned Kwesi Akwetey father of the boy and four others who are on the run as her accomplishes.

The victim has been rescued.
