National Democratic Congress Calls For Committee's Dissolution

The Central Regional Branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to, as a matter of urgency, dissolve all premix committees in the Region.

A statement signed by Mr. Kwesi Dawood, the Regional Communication Officer and copied to the GNA, also appealed to the President to empower the Regional Minister, Mr. Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, to reconstitute an interim committee to manage premix sales.

It said the government, recognizing the key role fishing played in the economy, constituted the committees to ensure equal distribution and sale of the fuel at an affordable cost to fishermen.

However, the statement said, the activities of some committee members were hampering the government’s efforts to better the lives of fisher folks in the Region as they were unable to get the commodity at the approved price.

“The dissolution and reconstitution of the committees, we believe, will help address the current challenges of diversion of the premix fuel, lack of accountability and transparency in the distribution of the product, which in some cases has resulted in chaos, quarrels and open fights,” the statement said.
