NPP Members Sacked From One Ghana Demo

Some members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) claim they were chased away from the ‘One Ghana’ demonstration organized by a group called ‘Coalition for the Defence of Equal Citizenship’ (CODEC) on Wednesday morning.

The group demonstrated on the streets of Accra  to tribal bigotry and unwholesome politics in the wake of comments allegedly made by Yaw Osafo-Maafo to the effect that even though close to 90 per cent of Ghana’s resources are concentrated in Akan-dominated parts of the country, it is non-Akans who come from regions which are poor in resources that are running the country.

Though the former finance Minister had admitted speaking at the forum where he is alleged to have made the comments he denies ever making such ethnocentric comments as captured on a secretly recorded audiotape.

Among the hundreds of demonstrators were the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful , Deputy Minority Leader of Parliament Dominic Nitiwul and the National Youth Organizer of the NPP.

But Mrs. Owusu Ekuful in an interview on Adom FM’s Midday News expressed dissatisfaction why they should be chased out since they were all in for the same cause.

“We are all fighting for the same cause and so I just don’t understand why the group should sack us claiming that we are politically oriented but that was false” he said.

Meanwhile, the Pressure group, Coalition for the Defence of Equal Citizenship (CODEC) has denied claims by the some members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) they were chased away from the One Ghana demonstration.

But in an interview with Citi News, convener of the group, Edudzi Kudzo Tamakloe said the claim is palpable false.

He indicated that leading members of the NPP like Deputy Minority leader, Dominic Nitiwul and Mike Ocquaye Jnr. were part of those who led the ?peaceful" protest

Edudzi Tamakloe is convinced the claim by the NPP is a calculated attempt to divert attention from a worthy cause.

“I’m extremely surprised about the NPP’s claim; nobody was chased out” he stressed.

The CODEC convener said as a group championing a One Ghana agenda, they will not do anything to mar national cohesion.

Edudzi Tamakloe urged Ghanaians to eschew ethnocentric comments and treat the “frivolous” claim of the NPP with the contempt it deserves.
