MP Cheats Death After Long Illness

It is said that death is inevitable!

But that was not the case of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Krowor Constituency in the Greater Accra region, Dr. Nii Oakley Quaye Kumah, who had been bedridden for the past three years.

The long illness of the Krowor MP which situation kept him out of Parliament for over three years gave the impression to many of his constituents and even friends that he had passed on.

However, discreet findings by Today revealed that Dr. Quaye Kumah has regained his health.

It would be recalled that Today in its Monday, November 17, 2014 edition published that the Krowor MP had not been to Parliament since 2012 due to terminal illness.

That situation, the paper revealed, compelled his constituents to call for a by-elections which will see a new MP elected to replace Dr. Quaye Kumah.

And that call from the constituents was in respect of the fact Dr. Quaye Kumah’s long absence in Parliament was stalling development in the area.

“For how long can we stay without having a representative in Parliament? That is not fair, and we think our party, [the NDC,] must start looking for someone who can represent us in Parliament,” some worried NDC members in the Krowor constituency told Today in that report.

And while the leadership of the NDC was tight-lipped about the health condition of the MP, it was rumoured last week that he had passed on to eternity.

However, unlike other past rumours which turned out to be true, Today can report that this time around that the rumour by some constituents of Krowor that the MP has passed away is totally false.

The paper can state on authority that Dr. Quaye Kumah is alive and kicking.

Speaking to Today in an interview via telephone  on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 Dr. Quaye Kumah, who sounded healthy in his voice though confirmed he had been sick for a long time, he could not understand why people would wish him dead.

When he was told by this reporter that it was on social media that he had died, he laughed and said my brother (referring to this reporter) “how can a dead man speak to you.”

“I’m healthy and looking strong and I’m not on admission so the death rumour is not true,” he asserted.

Even though he did not want to speak on the subject of his return to Parliament, Today gathered that he would soon resume his parliamentary duties.

Meanwhile, some of his constituents have expressed their delight about the news that their MP is healthy again, saying “we can now be at peace as our MP will be back in Parliament soon.”

The gleeful constituents told Today that they cannot wait to see their MP back in Parliament expressing optimism that his return would bring the needed change in the constituency.

And with this development what seemed to be a by-election in the constituency is now out of the question as the Krowor MP will soon resume work.
