Enroll Children In Pre-school- Education Director

The Accra Metropolitan Education Director, Mrs. Angela Tena-Mensah has appealed to parents, community leaders, chiefs and other stakeholders in education, to encourage the enrolment of children in pre-school for their proper development.

She said kindergarten has been identified as the foundation for the training of children and has become an essential component in educational system.

Mrs. Tena-Mensah said this at the 58th Independence Anniversary parade for kindergarten schools within the Accra Metropolis. It was on the theme: “Achieving Transformation through National Unity”.

Radio Ghana's Correspondent, Edith Eshun was at the ceremony and has filed report that the kindergarten parade is aimed at instilling a sense of patriotism and dedication to the cause of freedom as a heritage handed to Ghanaians by the first President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

Mrs. Tena-Mensah noted that the performance of the school children is an indication that the educational system, in spite of its several challenges, still hold the key to the future development of the Ghanaian child.

Mrs. Tena-Mensah urged teachers of kindergarten to use all available resources in innovative ways to build a supportive and stimulating learning environment for them to sustain their interest in education.

In a message delivered on behalf of the Mayor of Accra, the Metropolitan Director of Finance, Samuel Aryee reiterated that with the establishment of the millennium schools, the shift system will end by close of 2015.

Mr. Aryee entreated parents to stop shirking their responsibilities and pay attention to the needs of their wards.

Pupils were drawn from private and public schools in Osu Klottey, Ashiedu-Keteke and Ablekuma Sub-metros.

The Children were smartly dressed in their various school uniforms and marched past the dais amidst drumming, dancing, and cultural displays.
