Soldier Fails Suicide Bid At Barracks

A Warrant Officer class two (WOII) attached to the Second Battalion Infantry at Myohaung Barracks at Apremdo in the Western region is in critical condition at the Effia-Nkwantah Regional Referral Hospital after a failed suicide attempt.

Identified as WOII Emmanuel Kofi Yesu, he was said to have used a jackknife to cut his stomach open with his intestines gushing out.

After cutting himself and failing to withstand the pain, he shouted and called for help.

Another soldier who was passing by responded to the call for help and rushed him to the infirmary.

The incident happened last Sunday at about 9:30pm.

In a suicide note, he listed a number of people and the respective amounts he had borrowed from them and asked that they should be paid the respective sums after his death.

He also named two women, one Veronica and Alice and accused them of coming after his landed properties and a vehicle. He stated that nothing from his estate should be offered them after his death.

The Kwesimintism District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police, (DSP), Mr Edward Bayor told Graphiconline that the police found the suicide note when they visited the crime scene.

He said the WOII, who was in charge of the maintenance and transport section at barracks after inflicting the injury on himself fell in a supine position under a mango tree in the yard.

He said he was currently responding to treatment.
