MP, MCE Fight Over Speech

The rift between Member of Parliament (MP) for Techiman South, Adjei Mensah and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Techiman South, Philip Oppong Asamoah, was heightened during the 58th Independence anniversary celebrations as the two challenged each other over who had the right to address the parade.

Insiders hinted DAILY GUIDE that the MP and former MCE for the Techiman Municipal Assembly, was excluded from the programme line-up of personalities to address the parade.

A development Adjei Mensah did not take kindly to, and vented his anger on the MCE for masterminding the move. The MP then insisted that he should be allowed to address the parade.

However, the MCE called his (MP’s) bluff, indicating that he (MCE) was the right person to speak since he was representing the president in the municipality. But after a lengthy argument, the deputy minister had his way and finally had his name included in the list of speakers.

The MP surprisingly left the parade grounds immediately after delivering his speech, while the event was still underway.

The controversy raged on as supporters of the two key political figures in the municipality clashed at the parade grounds.

The fight between Kwadwo Adjei aka Kojo Cocaine, a popular NDC activist in the area and Gabriel Attipoe aka Commander, who reportedly confessed of being hired by the deputy minister to spray acid on an activist of the NPP some time ago, was said to be the extension of the rivalry between the minister and the MCE.

Insiders told DAILY GUIDE that the woes of the MCE began with his perceived link with Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, who is said to be lasing up her boots to contest the Techiman North parliamentary seat in the 2016 elections.

Insiders said the MCE had lost touch with the party executives as most of the constituency executives were on the side of the deputy minister – a development that made angry party faithful lock up the NDC constituency offices last week.

The cold war between the MP and the MCE is said to have impacted negatively on the development of Techiman as some of the assembly’s vehicles were recently confiscated by the court following the actions and inactions of the two personalities.
