Farmer Sentenced For Firearm Possession

A circuit court at Akim Swedru in the Eastern Region,   has sentenced a farmer to four years imprisonment for possessing a gun and cartridges.

Yaw Ansah, a resident of Aperade in the Birim South District who also threatened to kill a trader, pleaded guilty to threat of death and possessing firearms without authority.

The prosecution told the court that the complainant is Madam Comfort Asare, a trader, who lives with Ansah at Aperade,  and that, sometime in 2014, Nana Sarkodie from Aperade revealed to Madam Asare that Ansah discussed with him his plans to kill her.

The Prosecution said Ansah planned to kill Madam Asare and then leave a note to disclose his identity and then kill himself later.

The prosecution said after the disclosure, Nana Sarkodie informed Madam Asare about Ansah’s intentions.

Madam Asare therefore, made a report to the police who arrested Ansah. A search in his room revealed a single barrel gun and 21 cartridges.

Mr. Emmanuel Brew presided over the court.
