Soldier Attempts Suicide

Information reaching Daily Guide indicates that a military man purportedly with the Second Battalion of Infantry (2BN) at Apremdo near Takoradi in the Western Region, attempted to kill himself last Sunday.

The soldier, whose name was mentioned on Skyy Power FM in Takoradi as Kofi Yesu and believed to be in his early 40s, was alleged to have stabbed himself with a sharp knife, and that though he did not die, had his intestines gushed out.

Even though it was not clear why a soldier of his calibre wanted to kill himself in that manner, sources indicated that the military man was confronted with some serious family issues and so “wanted to end it all.”

Daily Guide gathered that before attempting the purported suicide, WO2 Kofi Yesu allegedly scribbled on a sheet of paper the reason why he decided to take his life. According to sources, other neighbours who heard the shouts of the frustrated soldier decided to go to his rescue and saw the gory scene.

They rushed him to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi,   and the paper learnt that WO2 Kofi Yesu was responding to treatment. When Daily Guide contacted the Public Relations Unit of the 2Garrison, a source indicated that the news had reached the outfit but was yet to get the details.

Meanwhile, the paper gathered that the sheet of paper that allegedly contained the reason for the purported act had been kept secret.
