Ghanaians Urged To Eradicate Negative Traits

Mr James ZuugahTiigah, Upper East Regional Minister, has urged Ghanaians to eschew acts  of violence and work together,   to eradicate negative traits that could disrupt the peace  the country was enjoying.

               Mr Tiiga noted that peace and stability were significant in achieving economic transformation the country was yearning for.

               The Regional Minister made the call  on the occasion of Independence Day celebration in Bolgatanga on the theme “Achieving transformation through National Unity,” when  36 junior and senior high schools, together with the security services and cadet corps participated in the march pass.

                 There were  delegations from the Republic of Togo and Burkina Faso to grace the celebration.

                  Mr Tiigah made reference to growing hot spots in the region,  and called for tolerance and unity in all spheres,  to avert them growing into violence that can  put off  investors who have shown interest in the region.

                 While  paying homage to past leaders of the country, he urged all to live exemplary lives worthy of emulation by the youth.

                     On the environment, the minister drew the attention of the people to growing filth in towns, villages and cities,  resulting in the outbreak of  communicable diseases,  and made a clarion call on chiefs, opinion leaders and the youth,  to wage war against filth and the protection of water bodies.

                      He called on all to participate in the Municipal and district assemblies’ campaign drive to improve sanitation in their areas on every first Saturday of the month.

                     He noted the increasing crime wave,  cyber fraud and indiscipline in society,  and called for concerted efforts to tackle the menace , “ the eradication of these crimes in our society should not be considered as a responsibility of government alone, we should all mount  vigorous and persistent campaigns against these criminals, ” he stated.

                      Mr Kotedja Lackyi,  the head of  a nine-member  delegation  from Togo, in a speech,  appreciated the invitation extended to them to be part of the celebration and said,  that consolidated the good relations between Ghana and  Togo,  and urged the two countries to promote good values,  such as peace , brotherliness, cooperation and stability.

                    He called on neighbouring countries to perpetuate the friendliness and co-operation among them,  in order to seek solutions to the common problems the West Africa sub-region was facing.

                      He advised  Togolese nationals living in Ghana to be good citizens and work to bring prosperity to Ghana.
