Techiman NPP Petitions President

The Techiman North and South constituency executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have jointly petitioned President John Dramani Mahama to remove the Deputy Minister of Education, Alex Kyeremeh, for peace to prevail at Techiman in the run-up to the 2016 general elections.

Copies of the petition have been sent to the chairpersons of the Council of State, National Peace Council, Ghana Pentecostal Council, Catholic Bishops’ Conference and the Christian Council of Ghana. The National Chief Imam, President of the National House of Chiefs, the IGP and the Brong- Ahafo Regional Police Commander have also been served with copies.

In the petition, the party executives chronicled a series of crime purported to have been masterminded by the deputy minister when he was the Techiman Municipal Chief Executive and as a National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Techiman North.

Prominent among the accusations was the dousing of Peter Mensah, the former Techiman North NPP constituency organizer, with acid in the run-up to the 2012 elections which led to the young man losing one eye after going through medical treatment in Germany.

The petitioners also alleged that the Mr Kyeremeh paid some people to poison one Paul Ameyaw, a staunch NPP supporter, in his farm.

According to the petitioners, he purportedly contracted some assailants to beat up the driver of Professor Ameyaw Akumfi to death at Bonya, a village near Techiman.

One serious allegation was that the deputy minister paid some hooligans GH¢5,000 each and bought machetes for them to butcher perceived supporters of the NPP who would try to register their names.

The petitioners mentioned John Donyina, the current NPP Techiman South Constituency 1st vice chairman; Kwadwo Sarfo, an NPP polling station agent; Kwame Atta, NPP polling station agent; Kwasi Frimpong, a staunch NPP supporter and others who sustained very serious cutlass wounds in the run-up to the 2012 general elections.

It will be recalled that Mr. Atippoe, the former deputy youth organizer of the NDC for Techiman South, in a recorded tape, alleged that it was Mr Kyeremeh who commissioned his nephew, Kofi Frank who currently works with the national security outfit and one other person to spray Peter Mensah with the acid.

The deputy minister also accused Mr. Atippoe of organizing thugs to attack Classic FM, a radio station at Techiman and vandalized the place.

When both tapes went viral, the deputy minister threatened to sue Attipoe but that suit is yet to come to reality.
