NDC Has Failed To Propagate Achievements

Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Allotey Jacobs, says the party has failed to propagate fully its achievements because it is not media-friendly.

He said it was unfortunate that their inability to court the friendship of the media had made it difficult to make their successes in governance and in the development of infrastructure in the country known to the people.

That, he said, had cost them a lot and that it was time to change.

“It is not right. You can’t underrate the role of the press and be successful as a political party,” he said.

Mr Jacobs was speaking at a press soiree organised by the Central Regional NDC in Cape Coast last Sunday.

He said the Central Regional executives were committed to bridging the gap between the party and the press to ensure that the nation was made aware of the party’s achievements in government.

He advised media houses to be circumspect in their choice of commentators in order to avoid people who are in the habit of using bad language.

He further urged them to avoid using the airwaves to slander others who did not have the opportunity to react to such slander.

The Central Regional Minister, Mr Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, said the erratic power supply was due to the extension of electricity to more communities.

He said the government was committed to improving infrastructure in education, health and sanitation, as well as roads in all rural communities, to ensure equitable development and called on the media to not only criticise but to also give praise where it was due.

He hinted that the Central Region was soon to get its regional hospital replaced as the regional hospital had been upgraded to a teaching hospital.

The Central Regional Communications Officer of the NDC, Mr Kwesi Dawood, said the regional party executive had toured some project sites in the region and were overwhelmed by the number of projects being undertaken by the government.

He called on the media to support the government in its efforts to bring the needed development to the people.
