Dr. Bawumia Doesnt Owe Govt & AFDB Any Apology Karbo

Aide of NPP’s Vice Presidential Candidate, Anthony Karbo has said his boss [Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia] will “never” say sorry to either government or the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) for the claims that he erred to have said Ghana was under sanction with the bank.

Karbo asserted that the NPP economist and running mate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was factual with his presentation during a lecture on the IMF bailout programme, to which he said Ghana has recently been sanctioned by the AfDB for non-payment of debt obligations due.

The deputy Chief Scribe of the ruling NDC, George Lawson has described the NPP’s running mate as a “lair” after calling on him to apologize to Ghanaians for the spin.

However, the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) has also disputed claims that Ghana was under sanctions with the bank.

According to the Director of Communications of AfDB, Joel Kibazo, “Ghana was current on all its obligations with the AfDB".

“Our attention has been drawn to a press report that Ghana is under sanctions with the African Development Bank Group (AfDB).”

“Accordingly, Ghana is not on the list of countries under sanctions by the AfDB. On 18 February 2015, due to an administrative oversight, Ghana was erroneously included in the list of countries under sanctions by the AfDB."

"…However, the error was detected that same day and a corrected list was immediately issued in replacement," A statement Kibazo signed reads

Reacting to the issue on OKAY FM’s "Ade Akyi Abia" morning show, the former NPP youth organizer, Karbo lamented that “they [AfDB] claim the correction was done on 18 February but that is not so. The document we have was prepared on the 31st of January 2015.”

“I want to state emphatically that Dr. Bawumia does not owe AfDB any apology neither does Dr. Bawumia owe government any apology. If there is anybody who needs to apologize to the people of this country, then it’s the African Development Bank. Their responses to Dr. Bawumia is a clear cover up from the evidence available…and I will make that evidence available to all,” he said.

Adding that, ”Dr. Bawumia will never come out with any information without facts. What he said is a credible information that came from the AfDB itself. Their response is just to cover their shame”.
