NPP Has No Favourite In Nigerias Election - Kwabena Agyapong

Ghana’s largest opposition party, the New Patriotic Party [NPP] says it will remain neutral in Nigeria’s election.

According to NPP’s General Secretary, Mr. Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, the party will not rally behind either the incumbent President, Goodluck Jonathan or the main opposition leader ex-military ruler Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.

He noted that, “Diplomatically it is not right for us [NPP] to support any of them [Goodluck and Buhari]. We cannot take side in another country’s internal politics because you never know who will eventually win”.

Nigeria’s election show little separating the incumbent, President Goodluck Jonathan, and ex-military ruler Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.

In percentage, Goodluck Jonathan has polled 41.56%, and Muhammadu Buhari, 54.58% with 15 states left to be announced.

The final results in the closely contested poll are expected to be announced on Tuesday.

However, speaking on OKAY FM’s "Ade Akye Abia" programme, the NPP’s chief scribe warned its party executive to be circumspect when commenting on Nigeria’s election.

I will counsel our party executives to desist from commenting on Nigeria’s election because it is the internal politics of a sovereign country. We should not publicly disclose our choice. Ghana has a strong relationship with Nigeria. Anyone who will win in Nigeria, Ghana is ready to work with him in a brotherly way,” he said.
