Samuel Boadi, 20, aka ‘Bafah,’ has been sentenced to 40 years in prison in hard labour by the Land Court 2 (High Court) in Kumasi over the killing of Richard Sallah, 39, Ecobank Manager at Abrepo.
The court, presided over by Justice Samuel Obeng Diawuo, found Boadi guilty on two charges of conspiracy to commit the offence of robbery and robbery and consequently sentenced him. His sentence is to run concurrently.
Bafah, who willingly accepted his guilt upon his arrest and even led the police to the crime scene where he repeated what led to the shooting to death of the late bank manager, did not drag the case.
There was drama in court when after the 40-year sentence had been slapped in Bafah’s face, he passionately pleaded with the presiding judge to show leniency to him, using his six-month-old child as a bait.
Bafah said his child was young so being kept in prison for 40 years would have adverse effects on the upbringing of the child, and for that matter, the court should reduce his sentence.
The presiding judge did not take any of Bafah’s pleas, saying that he (Bafah) and his cohorts, who are still large, shot and killed an innocent man who also left behind children so he should suffer the consequences of his bad action.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Lawrence Emmanuel Otto Boison of the AG’s office in Kumasi, had told the court that in December 2014, Bafah and three others went to Richard Sallah’s residence at Ahenema Kokonben New Site where they shot him (Sallah) after he and one Tupac, the ring leader, had cut the barbed wire on the banker’s fence wall and gained entry into his residence.
