2 Arrested For Possessing 256 Parcels Of Wee

The Dodowa District Police have arrested two men for allegedly possessing 256 parcels of compressed dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

The suspects, Okpoti Philip, 37, a mason, and Jerry Tetteh, 29, a taxi driver, were arrested on the Somanya-Dodowa road.

The police have also impounded the taxi, with registration number GT 443742, which had been stuffed with the slabs.

Vigilant policeman

Briefing the Daily Graphic, the Dodowa District Police Commander, Chief Superintendent of Police Mr Kwesi Ofori, said the suspects were arrested about 6 a.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 by a policeman.

He said the taxi driver, on seeing the policeman, sped off but he was arrested after a pursuit by the policeman who was driving a police vehicle.

Mr Ofori said a search on the taxi revealed the 256 slabs of the compressed dried leaves which had been covered with some brown plastics and concealed in travelling bags.

He said while some of the slabs were hidden in the boot of the car, others were on the passenger seat.

He said the compressed dried leaves had since been taken to the forensic laboratory of the Ghana Police Service for examination.

Mr Ofori said the suspects were being processed for court, while investigations continued.

The Dodowa District Police Commander commended the policeman, Lance Corporal Boateng, for his vigilance and bravery.

“He single-handedly arrested the two men when he noticed that they were avoiding the police because they might be hiding something,” he said.
