Prez Mahama Leaves For Togo, Nigeria

President John Dramani Mahama yesterday held consultations with key Togolese political stakeholders ahead of the country's elections on April 25, 2015.

Togo's election, originally slated for April 15, 2015, was postponed to April 25, 2015, following recommendations by the Chair of the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government, President Mahama.

A statement from the Flagstaff House said the Lome consultations were "to help ECOWAS determine the level of preparations and the satisfaction of the various political parties contesting the polls".

Speaking to reporters after a one-day working visit to Lome in March, this year, President Mahama said "as a result, ECOWAS proposes that the election is delayed by 10 days to allow the election list to be revised so everyone is satisfied".

The statement said from Lome, President Mahama would continue to Abuja, Nigeria, for meetings with the outgoing President of the Federal Republic, Goodluck Jonathan, and the President-elect, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (Retd).

President Mahama would also discuss the upcoming 40th Anniversary of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), which would be hosted by Nigeria in May, the statement said.
