All public Senior High Schools (SHSs) in the three northern regions have been directed to re-open schools today, following the release of their feeding grants.

According to Mr. Jacob A.M. Kor, acting Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (G.E.S), disbursements of the grants were released last week.

Mr. Kor who was speaking in an interview with The Ghanaian Times yesterday, said that the monies had hit the accounts of all SHSs in the three northern regions using the commercial banks.

He, however, admitted that the delays in some schools might be as a result of the rural banking system which might take some time for the monies to hit their accounts.

Mr. Kor said he had asked the Northern Regional Director of Education, to open the schools for academic work to begin, stressing that, the monies disbursed varied from school to school.

He urged anybody or headmasters who doubt the disbursements of the grants, to cross-check with the Financial Controller at the GES, and ensure that such things do not disrupt the academic calendar.

On Monday, there were indications that public Senior High Schools in the three northern regions would postpone their re-opening dates today, following the non-release of their feeding grants.

Some heads of the schools said they had no option than to let the students stay at home, because they could not afford to feed the students, due to lack of funds.
