Take First Aid Training To The Grassroots Frimpong Boateng

Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng has urged Ghanaians to be educated on the various first aid techniques.

According to him, majority of Ghanaians are not educated on what to do in emergency situations; hence when an accident occurs either the wrong first aid is given or the person is left without being attended to.

He made this comment at a book launch held on Sunday, 29th March 2015, at the KAMA conference centre, Accra.
The book which is titled “Public Health Emergencies And First Aid Manual” was written by Mr. Ernest P. Nyame-Annan, a seasoned first aid master trainer currently working with the Ghana Red Cross Society.

The book is aimed at educating people on simple ways of attending to emergencies and giving first aid.

Prof Frimpong who was the Guest Speaker for the launch also urged first aid trainers not to restrict the training sessions only to schools but also to the grassroots; lorry stations, markets and so on. “With this, the ‘local people’ will also benefit and at the same time get trained.

Mr Nyame Annan in an interview after the programme, bemoaned the lack of requisite skill and knowledge when it comes to handling accident victims.

According to him if people are educated on how to handle accident victims as well as give them first aid, most of them will survive.

“I believe there is a way to reduce mortality and for human beings to live long. I wrote The Public Health Emergencies & First Aid Manual to give an insight into preventive health and what to do in cases of accidents at workplaces, homes and on the road” he added.
