Footballer Electrocuted To Death

The Brong Ahafo Regional capital, Sunyani, has been thrown into a state of mourning following the death of a popular footballer and former player of Kumasi-based King Faisal Football Club, Seth Opoku.

He met his untimely death Monday morning at a place called Area 2 in Sunyani while taking his bath.

A live cable fell into the open bathroom and electrocuted him.

He was pronounced dead at the Brong Ahafo Regional Hospital. His body has been deposited at the Brong Ahafo Regional Hospital Mortuary.

Seth Opoku also played for Berekum Arsenals and Tano Boafoakwa.

James Opoku, the father of the deceased, said, "I went to greet him this morning but I met his shop empty though he had nicely arranged all the things inside. I sat down to wait for him but for some minutes he didn't return and that was unusual so I was looking around. He had asked someone to bring him some clothes and the person came to meet me so we started looking around for him."

He revealed that “the guy who brought the shirt later saw someone's leg near the bathroom behind the shop so we both went there and it was him lying there lifeless and naked with the bucket of water near him. We rushed him to the hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival.”

The founder and bankroller of Kumasi-based King Faisal Babies Football Club, Alhaji Karim Grusah, has paid a tribute to the late footballer.

“Seth Opoku was a disciplined player and he was committed to King Faisal. Anytime I am in Sunyani he brings me provisions. We had even planned to make him the representative of King Faisal Babies in the Brong Ahafo Region before his death,” Alhaji Grusah revealed.
