Confirmed! Afoko, Agyepong nearly beaten in Bolga

The Upper East Regional Police command has confirmed that but for their timely intervention, angry New Patriotic Party (NPP) youth in the region would have severely beaten up party chairman, Paul Afoko and General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong.

Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), ASP Thomas Agbenyo speaking on Asempa FM Friday said that a formal complaint was lodged with the police by NPP Chairman, Paul Afoko.

The complaint, he said, led to their timely intervention to avert clashes.

“But for our timely intervention, am sure the youth would have severely beaten up Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong…,” he said.

The two national leaders of the opposition party were chased by rioting youth of their party in the region when they attempted holding a meeting with constituency executives of the party at the regional capital, Bolgatanga.

The irate party members was also said to have attacked the Upper East regional organizer, Jerry Asamani for organising the meeting without informing the regional chairman, Mahama Adam.

The timely intervention of the police, according to eyewitnesses, saved the situation from degenerating into total chaos.

ASP Agbenyo added that the police sensing danger had to keep Mr. Agyepong and Afoko at the police station for sometime before escorting them to Tamale.
