Kufour Unhappy Over Vilification

Former Ghanaian President, J.A Kufuor remains an unhappy man over what he considers to be the treatment being meted out to him and members of his government by the Mills administration. Kufour who left office in January after completing his second of a four-year term as Ghanaian leader has come under criticisms for certain decisions and actions taken during his tenure as President. But in an interview with the BBC Network Africa programme on Thursday, the former leader considers the present administration as a slight to his personality. Kufour says the Mills government has been vilifying him so they can look good in the eyes of the public. When you look at the situation, it begins to look like there has been a coup dtat. It wasnt a coup dtat that changed government. People went to ballot and the votes were almost split equally, he said. There is a new government in place; it wants to find its feet. Perhaps they think they must position me in a certain way so the attention of the public will be drawn to the government of the day. For Mr Kufuor, the outcome of the keenly contested general elections which was decided in a run-off that culminated in Mills becoming President should rather bring about more cooperation with the opposition than what he considers to be the approach being adopted. Kufour, now serving on international bodies, says he hopes the present government will wake up to the reality on the ground with time and also treat him with respect and dignity deserving of an ex-president who has selflessly served the country with diligence and fortitude.
