Tarzan: I Pre- Financed Ghana@50 With 2 Billion Cedis

Had it not been a phone interview, a personal encounter would have erupted between the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ghana@50, Dr Charles Wereko Brobby (popularly known as Tarzan) and three social commentators, namely; Ben Ephson, Mr. Kwasi Pratt and Ametor Kwami. This happened when Dr. Brobby criticized them for calling him names that gave the impression that he was a thief. Speaking on Peace FMs Morning Show, Kokrokoo, Dr Brobby alleged that Mr. Pratt of the Insight newspaper and Ametor Kwami of Ghana Palava newspaper called him names on a radio programme which, he says, defames his image. According to him, the two social commentators alleged that he, Dr Brobby spent Ghana@50 money thus causing financial loss to the state and this was the same thing Ben Ephson was alleged to have published in his newspaper, the Daily Dispatch. He stated thus: Pratt and his colleagues have made themselves auditors and they talk anyhow without proof, why cant they wait for the commissions report? Dr Brobby who was very furious with the three social commentators told Peace FM that he personally used his money, about 2,000,000,000 or GH200,000 to sponsor the celebration. He revealed: my money I used to sponsor the event was a secret I kept to myself, but Im telling Peace FM for the first time, because of these journalists and their behaviour. He referred to them as biased and writing in favour of one party. In reaction to Dr Brobbys accusation, Mr Pratt and Ametor Kwami denied the allegations but said, he knew he could be guilty, that is why he was talking so much. Mr Pratt however said, he wished the committee for enquiry set up by President Mills to investigate the expenditure of Ghana@50 would investigate all public sectors in which Dr Brobby had served because he mismanaged government institutions under his supervision and cannot therefore be trusted. Ben Ephson also descended on Dr Brobby in reaction, and said he wrote and published his story based on the Auditor-Generals Report so it was wrong for Dr Brobby to accuse him and refer to him as a biased journalist who talks as if he goes to bed with the politicians. He said, although the commission has not come out with its report, the Auditor Generals report which came out shows mismanagement and illegalities in the Ghana@50 Secretariat and that is exactly what he published in his newspaper. Mr Pratt told listeners not to listen to Dr Brobby saying, he is a big liar.
