Funeral Organizers On Cheating Spree ...

Painstaking investigations conducted by the DAILY HERITAGE has uncovered how organizers of funeral and parties have been outsmarting the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) by using power illegally while the state labour to solve the problem of frequent power outage.

The reason for connecting power outside the main electricity meter especially those using the normal meters is to evade paying huge bills at the end of the month, a development that amount to an act of illegality.

The DAILY HERITAGE investigation can confirm this practice has become predominant in most of the Ga communities in the capital of Accra, notably Teshie, Nungua, Labadi, Osu, James Town, Kaneshie and Tema just to mention a few.

Snippets of information gathered indicate that the practice is having a toll on electricity supply in the country currently as all the watts they use do not reflect what they pay to the ECG at the end of the month.

The paper can also confirm, that some people caught in this act told the paper that it is a “normal thing in Nungua and most everybody does it for funerals and parties.”

This startling revelation, the paper can say will rue government efforts in resolving the electricity operations in the country.

The paper can also confirm that some households reconnect after power supply has been cut for owing bills. They are also known to manipulate the meters in order to pay lower bills.

This is to ensure that, their monthly electricity bills do not increase hence casing financial lost to the state and impeding government effort in improving electricity supply in the country.

The paper’s investigation revealed that this practice has become a convention and any time there are funerals and parties this practice is carried out.
