Calm has returned to the Dumasua community in the Sunyani West District of the Brong Ahafo Region following an agitation by women in the community over the lack of a refuse dump.
About a month ago, women in Dumasua, numbering about 100, gave their chief, Nana Kwame Amponsah II, who is based in the United States, a welcome package by dumping refuse at the entrance of his residence to demand the provision of a refuse dump for the community.
The Dumasua community for some time now has had no refuse dump. Residents have to keep their refuse at their respective homes and burn them; some also throw them into bushes. The old refuse dump has been sold to an individual, who is developing it.
The women sought the assistance of the Mentukwahene, Nana Owusu Antwi Bosomtwe III to apologise on their behalf.
Nana Owusu Antwi III, who spoke through an interpreter, said the women were sorry for their conduct.
He said the women promised not to put up such an act again.
After the apology, a ritual was performed by the slaughtering of two sheep and the pouring of libation to appease the gods and cleanse the stool.
The Dumasuahene, Nana Kwame Amponsah II, in his speech, said he was disappointed in the women, but accepted the apology.
Nana Amponsah II has since purchased waste bins for the community which would be empty by the Sunyani West District on regular basis.
He, together with his leaders, is looking for an appropriate land to be used as a refuse dump in the community.
