Accra Floods: CAF Calls On Gov't To Relocate Ministries To The Regions And Move The Seat Of Gov't Outside Accra

Citizens Awake Forum (CAF) a pro democracy civil society organization is calling on government to relocate the various Ministries to the regions and move the Seat Of Government outside Accra.

According the organization, government must have the political will to take this initiative by relocating ministries to the regions and perhaps the Seat of Government to a location outside Accra which could be conducive and enhance the proper functioning of the government.

"We must learn from other countries like Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Germany, etc which has made it in relocating their Seat of Government to an environment which is ideal and befit the status of Seat of Government," the statement said.

To begin with, our deepest condolence goes out to the families of the affected victims and the entire nation as we mourn our brothers and sisters in this trying time.

As a group founded on the principles of socialist, CAF have solicited for some relieve items to the families of the affected victims.

As day passes by, the incidence keeps reflecting on our minds as what really was the cause of this disaster. Its so pathetic and alarming to lose over 200 innocent Ghanaians of an avoidable disaster within a month.

Interestingly, most of our institutions mandated to steer affairs are so weak to the point that some recalcitrant Ghanaians manage to regulate the leaders of these government institutions.

This is where the country has gotten to.It is not surprise that the Lord of Mayors is the center of bastardization at this moment. Certainly, someone must be responsible for this disaster.

But the question is, for how long should we continue to be in this messwhen the problems remainunsolved. This is not the first or the second or the third time we are experiencing this disaster.

The time has come for us to act in the collective interest of our nation. We must find a lasting solution to this disaster and the time is now.

Undoubtedly, Accra is a sprawling metropolis, a home to about 7 million people. The conditions of Accra get worst everyday. The city is the economic heart of Ghana and such it houses all institutions owned by the government and the private sector businesses.

In view of this, people travel from their respective villages - North, South, East and West to seek economic fortunes in Accra only to end up in trouble.

Our drainage system is very bad in this country, notably Accra due to their un Ghanaian culture on the part of citizens who reside close to our drainages. For instance, Odaw River has become a site for refuse. No good citizen would do this. The Assembly by laws must be enforced to check ill cultured Ghanaians who dump refuses into our drainage across the country.

More so, people acquire illegal permit and build houses and or Petrol stations anywhere without looking at the safety and comfort of residence. Some residences dont care whether the land acquired is close to a river or not. In as much as the land is bought, they begin to develop the area. The net result is the floods which took over 200 lives and left the nation in mourning.

As it stands now, Accra is choked with people. The government must have the political will to take this initiative by relocating Ministries to the regions and perhaps the Seat of Government to a location outside Accra which could be conducive and enhance the proper functioning of the government.

We must learn from other countries like Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Germany, etc which has made it in relocating their Seat of Government to an environment which is ideal and befit the status of Seat of Government

Thank You.
