Popular fetish priest Nana Kweku Bonsam literally broke down in tears over what he called “politicisation and ignorant talk” regarding the recent flood and fire disasters which claimed the lives of over 150 persons in Accra.
Bonsam, touted as a ‘strong man’ who has supernatural powers, could not hold back his tears as he recounted how he himself nearly lost his life through a fire accident in 1986.
“Fire is the most painful accident a human being can encounter. I have been through it and I almost died but God saved me and I was hospitalised for two years and eight months so I know how it feels. I have experienced fire accident and I have learnt about fire wounds so it hurts me when I see our leaders passing blame and playing partisan politics with what happened instead of talking about how to prevent it and save the victims,” Bonsam told NEWS-ONE.
He continued: “We have to look at the root cause of the problem, how to prevent it and how to save the victims who survived rather than spending time on radio debating whether we should blame John Mahama or the mayor of Accra. What do we gain from that and how would that help solve the problem? There are still fuel stations that have coverts which are not properly sealed and are leaking all over the country?
“Rather when the politicians are misbehaving, some pastors are also on radio every dawn talking nonsense and scaring people with their lies that God sent this evil to befall Ghana and that it would happen again. Nonsense; it is our collective foolishness that has landed us here and if we do not do the right things it would happen again, prayer or no prayer, libation or no libation. ”
The fetish priest broke down when he explained his frustrations: “I have a cream that can help reduce the scars and burns they would suffer but when I talk, people ask me to shut up because I am not an engineer or a fire expert or a professor. But you see, they are ignorant but they think I am rather ignorant. Who of them has survived a fire accident before? Who of them has fire scars that have been reduced with herbal medicine? I have this herbal cream I want to donate to help. I have over 500 pieces but you know Ghanaians and their attitude. So I have help I can’t give out. But I would try it and see the resistance because I am planning to visit the flood victims with some donations; so I would add the cream.
“Some people see my face and say I have burns; it means you did not know what I looked like. I got burnt to an extent that I had to use a knife to cut off some of my flesh that got burnt and joined together. My chin got joined to my shoulder and my stomach and back all got torn apart. My skin was peeling and only my mother could hold me. Everyone who saw me went into hiding. So I know what fire accident is and I know how to cure the wounds and scars but they would rely on Vaseline, Izol, hydrogen and brimstone which won’t help them.”
Bonsam suggested that if Ghanaians are not ready to respect the laws on sanitation and stop doing things that get the gutters choked, city authorities should think of employing fetish priests to make sure people observed such laws.
“Before the white man brought his classroom education, Africans kept their surroundings and water bodies clean because they feared instant justice from the gods or our ancestors. But these days, the educated people say we the idol worshippers are evil so we have been ignored and the people are disobeying all the laws.
“I wish I had a portion of Accra to handle for all to see what would happen to people who litter the environment or throw waste into drains or contractors who build roads without proper drains. I just wish I had a part of Accra to handle,” Bonsam said.
