Let Them Test The Ebola Vaccine On You First - Bagbin Tells Prof Dodoo

The Majority Leader in Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has called on Prof. Alex Dodoo Professor of School of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Ghana to be the first to submit to an Ebola vaccine test in the proposed phase one clinical trials.

Speaking in Parliament Tuesday, Mr Bagbin said Prof Dodoo would be showing leadership if he submitted to the test.

According to him, if the Prof undergoes the test, he (Babgin) will also submit himself to the test to demonstrate leadership.

The Majority Leader was speaking during a deliberation in Parliament as to whether Prof Dodoo should be referred to the privileges committee of the house for allegedly describing members as ignorant.

The Prof last week called on parliamentarians to apologise to Ghanaians for what he said was their incorrect comments on the Ebola vaccine trial intended to be undertaken in the Volta Region, but which has now been suspended.

The MP for Manyhia, Mathew Opoku-Prempeh, and others joined Mr Babgin in arguing that the Prof has denigrated parliament and must be called to explain his comments.

The speaker of Parliament, Mr Edward Doe Adjaho, agreed with them and ruled that Prof Dodoo should appear before the privileges committee to answer for his “contemptuous” remarks.
