Seek Permission Before Erecting Billboards

The Kasoa Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Mr Charles E. A. Koomson has cautioned the public and advertisers to seek permission from the appropriate authorities before erecting billboards.

Mr Koomson who expressed worry over the haphazard erection of billboards said it was inappropriate for billboards and signboards to be erected at unapproved places.

He indicated that it was in the interest of the public and organisations to abide by byelaws of the local authorities of the various jurisdictions they operated in, especially in terms of rules concerning the setting up of billboards.

The Kasoa NADMO Coordinator gave the advice following a tour of some areas which had been affected by floods following a downpour.
A number of billboards had collapsed as a result of the downpour and had in some cases blocked some major roads.

He said the notion that the assemblies were only interested in collecting money for the erection of billboards was wrong and explained that the directive was to ensure public safety.

In another development, some residents of Kasoa New Town have appealed to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to relocate an electricity pole which is in a water course.

Expressing fear about the recent flood that hit the national capital they explained that the erection of the electricity pole in the water course which is also a drainage system, posed a danger as it may collapse during a rainfall and cause some damage to life and property.

One of the residents, Sherif Mohammed, who spoke to the Daily Graphic, said the residents were planning to embark on a demonstration to demand a drainage system and also for the electricity pole to be relocated.

They issued the threat while they were stuck in their houses while their compound was flooded, when the Kasoa Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Adams Nuhu visited some of the affected areas.
