SWAG Elects New Executives

The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has elected new executives to steer the affairs of the association for the next four years.

A statement from the secretariat of the association said veteran journalist and host of GTV Sports Highlight Kwabena Yeboah has been elected as the new president after he went unopposed, with Mr Maurice Quansah, Deputy Sports Editor of Graphic Sports, as the Vice President.

Quansah had 72 votes as against Ben Ohene Aryeh of the Ghana Tourist Board, who had 17 votes.

William Ezah of the Ghana News Agency (GNA) retained his position as the General Secretary with 62 votes, as against Sammy Heywood Okine, a Freelance Journalist, who had 24 votes.

It added that Thomas Boakye-Agyemang of Happy FM polled 48 votes to become the Deputy General Secretary as his contender Nana Prempeh, Sports Editor of Rainbow Radio International, had 38 votes.

In the race for the position of Treasurer, Madam Rosalind Amoh of Graphic Sports had 52 votes to overcome a challenge from Miss Helga Gokah, who had 38 votes.

Charles Osei Asibey of Happy FM and Larry George Botchway of Information Services Department (ISD) were elected as Executive Members to make up the seven member team.

Asibey and Botchway polled 58 and 66 votes respectively to pick up the two slots ahead of Peter Mensah, a freelance journalist, who had 16 votes.

A date will be set for the newly elected officers to be inducted into office.
