Well Transport Willing Old Fadama Residents To The North Nii Lante

Government has expressed its willingness to assist any resident of Old Fadama who wants to return to their home regions up north.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Odododiodio and Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Nii Lante Vanderpyue told Citi News, buses will be made available to transport such persons back.

“Those who have willingly decided to go back; we are going to make transportation available to them. We are also going to make some little support for them,” he revealed.

Over a thousand residents of Old Fadama in Accra, mostly migrants from the three regions of the north have been displaced as a result of the demolition undertaken by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) in the area.

The residents who were living along the banks of the Odaw River and the Korle Lagoon had to be ejected to make way for the dredging of the two water bodies which have been choked with filth.

The angry residents hit the streets on Monday with some demanding compensation for their properties which had been destroyed.

But others said they were willing to go back to their hometowns should the government provide them with the necessary logistics and support.

Others were also demanding alternative accommodation something Nii Lante Vanderpuye said government is working on.

“For those who do not want to go back, we are working out an arrangement for them for now,” he said.
