Three Envoys Bid Prez Mahama farewell

Three outgoing envoys yesterday called on President John Dramani Mahama at the Flagstaff House to bid him farewell after completing their duty tours.

They were the Israeli, the Danish and the Senegalese ambassadors, Ms Sharon Bar-li, Ms Margit Thomsen and Mr Cherif Oumar Diagne, respectively.

Israel
Ms Bar-li has completed a four-year duty tour of Ghana.
President Mahama commended her for the effective manner in which she represented Israel, especially how she brought the two countries closer. He indicated that a number of Israeli business people came to Ghana to invest during her tenure. The President acknowledged the various projects and programmes going on in the country with the support of Israel, including the 600-bed University of Ghana Hospital and the Early Childhood Education programme, and said it demonstrated the growing relations between Ghana and Israel.

He also commended Israel for the contributions it made to fighting the Ebola viral disease when there was an outbreak in parts of West Africa.

Ghana, he said, was looking forward to benefiting immensely from Israel's expertise in agriculture and aquaculture.
President Mahama also called for peace in the Middle East, saying Ghana would support any process that would bring lasting peace to that area.

Envoy
Ms Bar-li said she felt great to have worked in Ghana, adding that she was impressed with the development taking place in the country. "I truly believe in a bright future awaiting Ghana, in spite of the challenges," she added. She expressed her condolences to the families of the victims of the Accra twin disasters.

Denmark
Receiving the Danish Ambassador, who spent two years in Ghana, President Mahama said Denmark had been a true friend of Ghana. He stated that ECOWAS was looking forward to finalising the Economic Partnership Agreement ( EPA) with the European Union (EU) as soon as the new Nigerian government signed onto the agreement. He praised Denmark for its enviable human rights record.

Ambassador Thomsen
Ms Thomsen said she appreciated the good working relations she had with the government and the people of Ghana.

Senegal
The President said Senegal's role in sub-regional development was phenomenal.
He expressed confidence in the Senegalese President, Macky Sall, to take ECOWAS to another level during his tenure as chairman of the sub-regional grouping.
He said with the integration process moving forward, the economic progress of the sub-region would also see advancement.

Envoy
Mr Diagne, who spent five years in Ghana, said he was happy to have worked in the country.
