<<Print>>Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, the National Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed optimism that the key developmental projects initiated by the government in the Eastern Region, are likely to earn the NDC more than 50% of the popular votes in the 2016 elections.
He was speaking at a rally organized by the Eastern Regional branch of the party to launch “Agenda 50/50,” which is aimed at winning 50 percent of the popular votes in the region in next year’s elections.
He cited the case of Kyebi and said, after the destruction of the water system of Kyebi by illegal miners, the government had provided the area with a small town water system.
Mr Ofosu-Ampofo said the government had launched a programme for the rehabilitation of roads in the Kyebi township, which had been neglected, as well as other roads in the region.
Mr Ofosu-Ampofo said the government of NDC had provided Abuakwa State College and Akyem Asafo Senior High School with classroom and dormitory blocks to meet the needs of those schools.
He said looking at the various projects that the government had provided the people of the region, the party deserved to win in the region in the 2016 elections.
Mr Kofi Adams, the National Organizer of the party , called on the region to let their support for the part reflect in the number of parliamentary seats of the party in the region.
Out of the 33 parliamentary seats in the Eastern Region, the NDC has only seven, even though the party had over 42 percent of the total votes cast in the region in the 2012 elections.
Mr Adams charged members of the party to unite, and start moving from house to house to tell the people about the good works of the government.
Mr Samuel Flesher Kwabi, Suhum Municipal Chief Executive, said a road designed for the Suhum township which had been on the drawing board for the past 40 years had been constructed under the NDC government.
He said, currently, the contract had been awarded for the rehabilitation of the Suhum township roads.
The Regional Chairman of the party, Mr Bismark Tawiah Boateng, appealed to the electorate to look at the development projects that had been provided in the region and vote for President Mahama.
