Angry staff of the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) have vehemently shot down a clandestine move by the bank’s Board Chairman to unilaterally extend under fire MD, Stephen Kpordzih’s contract without recourse to proper corporate practices.
A copy of a letter intercepted by the New Crusading GUIDE, purportedly reappointing Mr. Kpordzih read: The Board has decided to reappoint you as Managing Director of the Agricultural Development Bank Limited with effect from 1st August, 2015”.
The letter signed by Nana Soglo Allor IV, congratulating the MD on his said reappointment also stated that: “The period of appointment is three years and will be upon the existing terms and conditions which is however subject to negotiations and review at later date”.
The agitating workers who got wind of the move from their sources within management threatened a sit-down strike to protest the continued stay in office of Mr. Kpordzih as MD. This paper is reliably informed that following the threats from the workers an emergency meeting was summoned last Friday at the behest of the Minister for Labour and Employment, Mr Haruna Iddrissu last Friday, where the Minister before sighting the letter accused the workers of showing bad faith in the ongoing negotiating process.
But the workers set tongues wagging at the meeting which was attended by TUC General Secretary, Mr. Kofi Asamoah when they finally released the Board chairmans’ letter which compelled the Minister to apologise to the workers, whiles asking them to disregard it. Pundits of the sector are arguing that asking the MD to step aside should be an easy decision to take, because the MD has 195 days accumulated leave in just six years. Meanwhile, this paper is informed that the HR policy of the bank, signed into force by the MD, frowns on the accumulation of leave days by any member of staff.
The workers have always accused their MD of “gross incompetence, high handedness and staff intimidation”, particularly his so called insensitivity to staff welfare and improved working conditions. Readers would recall that the current impasse between management and staff was sparked by a correspondent from the latter’s union seeking clarification on the impending IPO which has been suspended indefinitely.
