Gov�t Earmarks $15,420,000 For Rural Tech Facilities

The government has earmarked $15,420,000 to establish 30 more Rural Technology facilities in various parts of the country, the Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr. Ekow Spio-Garbrah, has announced.

He said the move would enhance the promotion and transfer of appropriate technologies to rural businesses and contribute to employment generation in the country.

The minister was speaking at the joint graduation ceremony for technical students of Goaso and Bechem Rural Technology Facility at Goaso in the Asunafo North Municipality of Brong- Ahafo Region.

He announced that, the Rural Enterprises Programme would be constructing hostel facilities for some selected RTFs to house trainees and others who go to the centers for practical attachment and assured that the Goaso center will not be left out.

The Minister also indicated that, “without technology and innovation, industrialization will not happen and without industrialization development will not happen.”

Mr. Spio Garbrah called on stakeholders to play their part to ensure these facilities remain viable and sustainable in supporting the development of rural businesses.

Mr. Kwasi Atta-Antwi, the National Director of Rural Enterprises Programme called on the managers of RTFs to come out with innovative ideas that would help improve people’s incomes and livelihoods.

He said students of the various facilities under the current system were taken through not only the practical and technical training in machining, welding and fabrication but also learn subjects like Entrepreneurship, English and Mathematics among others to prepare them for the job market.
