BT Baba Sworn-In As Talensi MP

The newly-elected Member of Parliament for Talensi, Benson Tongo Baba, has been sworn into Parliament by the Speaker.

He took the oath of Member of Parliament and Oath of Secrecy Tuesday.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) lawmaker polled over 10,000 votes in last Tuesday’s by-election in the Upper East constituency as against the opposition New Patriotic Party’s Thomas Duanab’s 6,845 votes to recapture the seat for the ruling party.

The PNC candidate Wombeoto Namailteng garnered 6,836 representing 27.90% of the total votes cast followed by the PPP which had 214 votes representing 0.87%. 

The GFP polled 58 votes, NVP had 93, UPP managed 49 while the IPP polled a paltry 38.

The total valid votes cast were 24,499, rejected votes were 882 while the votes cast were 25,381 representing 64.22% of total turn-out.

The PNC is contesting the election.

B.T Baba, however, declined to comment after he was sworn-in.
