The audience in the Broadway theater were on their feet in rapturous applause, but the show hadn't even started.

They stood up to welcome President Obama and his two daughters as they entered the Richard Rodgers theater to watch the musical Hamilton - bringing the curtain down on their whistle-stop tour of New York. 

The Commander-in-chief, a well known fan of theater, guided Malia, 17, and Sasha, 14, to their seats as the excited crowd took pictures on their cellphones.
